Mitigation component

Climate actions within municipalities and regions are crucial in overcoming climate change challenges. Emission reduction actions are particular in different contexts, their viability and effectiveness depend on the social, cultural, economic and environmental characteristics of each region. For this reason, it is necessary to know and evaluate regional conditions to propose effective mitigation policies and measures that respond to local realities.

La Guajira is a department of the Colombian Caribbean coast that presents great challenges regarding social and environmental development, however it has great potential for emissions reductions and develop a resilient territory .

In this project, KIMSA’s team supported the generation of a variety of measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) applicable to the characteristics of the department of  La Guajira. These climate actions were incorporated into the mitigation component of the Climate Change Plan of the Department of La Guajira – PICC Guajira.
